From Japan: Wang Wang the baby panda

2328603Kana, our new friend in Tokyo, lets us know about Wang Wang the baby boy panda...

Wang Wang has his own website with lots of webcam pictures... and there's reference to something called the Cara Carina Panda Project... Kana says he came from the Wolong Panda Reserve and a company in Japan adopted him... but I'd like to know more!

Kana, or anyone else, if you know more about Wang Wang could you please add some comments about him?  Thanks...

Totally agree, labwitch. That one's a real cutie. I don't know about old pandas, though. ;)

Hello, greetings from panda and pandili on www.diklaan.com

Panda fan

You might wish to link to the world-exclusive video at this site:

http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s1755621.htm

where in July 2006, an Australian science journalist goes in search of Xiang Xiang, the first captive-bred panda to be released to the wild.

great information, you may be right as to which one he is. now i have another panda baby to keep track of. can't think of a better or more relaxing pastime on the net. no news, no politics, just pandas! thanks for the additional information.

This cub was born on 8/31/05, the last surviving cub to be born at Wolong in their 2005 season. I assume that the smallest cub in the group pics below can be this guy. What do you think?

Thanks NekoMama- exactly right and very helpful!

Kana also wrote back with some more info:

1. Wang Wang's Blog:
http://blog.so-net.ne.jp/tonarino-kopanda
You can see all his pictures here!!! Some new pictures is up-loaded here on weekdays.
They are like comic strips...
Because, the Japanese characters written next to the picture
is words assumed that Wang Wang speaks. His story is very friendly and is like the joke.

2 Wang Wang's videos:
http://www.so-net.ne.jp/beauty/
Can you find his FLASH movies here?
The frame displayed on the first white screen as
"Cara Carina Panda Project" is on the right side in this page.
Now, movies are up-loaded to "Vol.6", and they are displayed
at random.

labwitch

thanks for that nekomama7. google translates the page for me, but, it's still pretty much japanese to me. ;)

I'm not sure what is the actual phonetic spelling in Chinese, but this guy "Wan Wan," as phonetically spelled from Japanese (as this is a Japanese site), is Mao Mao's baby. Wolong site said, with a help of Google translator, something like Mao Mao had a hard time raising the baby as she didn't know what to do at first. Keepers had to show her what to do. But from what we can see on the blog, she seems to be doing OK now.

The blog is a collection of video captures from the "panda cam" located in Wolong, with funny captions. Not much about behind the scenes stories, etc., so you're not really missing much if you don't read Japanese. They don't have a live feed camera, but when you go to http://www.so-net.ne.jp/beauty/index.html you get to see short flash animation/movie pieces. Refresh your browser and you should be able to see about 3 varieties.

"Wan wan" is also the equivelant of "bow wow" in Japanese. That's one of the things mentioned in the blog, as 2006 being year of the dog.

labwitch

who cares if i can't read japanese? he's still a real cutie. all the pandas, young or old are precious cuties!
